Crime sweep brings arrests
Clarion Ledger Comments
Leave it to Mayor Frank, the JPD and the Clarion-Ledger to demonstrate what I've been saying for almost two years, that if you want to find the bad guys in Jackson, start with Section-8 Housing. From all the people to have their picture taken, being arrested at the corner of Bailey and Fortification with drugs, how good could it get for me to find that the one person to have his picture taken -- gives his address as being some Section-8 apartments at 414 Eureka Avenue. Click on the link below, and across (to the right) the street from the two white vehicles (on the street) you will see an apartment building sitting on the corner of that intersection. That's 414 Eureka Avenue. There is a 99.999% chance that these apartments are in the Section-8 Housing Program and a 99.999% chance that Tony Lee is living in these federally funded apartments against the law. Tony Lee's Taxpayer-Funded Section-8 Crib Posted by: Johnny at July 8, 2005 05:04 PMThe alt/press is bemoaning the fact that Melton isn't doing his sweeps in Eastover. But what would be the point? Pat down a few joggers and dog walkers? They are concentrating their efforts in the high crime areas. What idiot would fault them for that? Posted by: Jane at July 8, 2005 07:54 PMJane said: "The alt/press is bemoaning the fact that Melton isn't doing his sweeps in Eastover..." I wonder why they are not complaining about sweeps not being done in Fondren? Plenty of dog walkers there too--maybe a few bicycle riders and hikers wearing sandals in search of nature trails. Gotta watch THOSE potential criminals too! "Hey!!! YOU...Yeah you.. the one in Berkenstocks with the hemp necklace...put your hands up!!! What's that in your pocket?" Alas. The alt.wealky continues it's slide into irrelevance. Posted by: red states rule at July 9, 2005 07:28 AMJane said: "The alt/press is bemoaning the fact that Melton isn't doing his sweeps in Eastover..." Can you provide a link? Posted by: at July 9, 2005 10:50 AMThe discussion about the sweeps, and "someone's" concern that Eastover is overrun with drugs, is in the thread "It's Melton Time: What's Next for Jackson?" Posted by: Jane at July 9, 2005 12:30 PMAssuming, for the sake of argument (lawyer phrase) that Eastover was overrun with drugs, a sweep would be useless in that the cops can't enter people's homes (at least, not without a warrant) and the last time I looked, people in Eastover aren't prone to "partying" in their front yard and in the street like my lovely neighbors do (I'm dying to introduce these people to the concept of the backyard). Furthermore, how many of Jackson's car jackings, armed robberies, murders, etc., have been perpetrated by the denizens of Eastover? I would venture to say very few, if any. I'd rollerblade through Eastover anytime if I were not so lazy. I can't say the same for the neighborhoods in which the sweeps are occurring. Posted by: Jane at July 9, 2005 12:39 PM
wanna-be jornalist who can't be mentioned: I haven't heard of anyone getting mugged, raped or shot in eastover!?!?!?!!?!?! Posted by: Al at July 10, 2005 04:43 PMAL: It doesn't matter. drugs are drugs and they hide in the most obvious of places AND the most hidden. Posted by: political pimp at July 11, 2005 01:43 PM...Because from what I'm hearing/seeeing the "sweeps" are random. Posted by: political pimp at July 11, 2005 01:52 PMwanna-be journalist who can't be mentioned: What happened to only being able to comment with facts to back up what you say? This statement violates her own "user agreement". I know ...cleary this doesn't apply to her. But...Where's the hard data to support this? Prove it. Prove there's "shotloads of drugs in Eastover". Do it. Call the police...RIGHT NOW...don't wait. I'm sure Frank would be HAPPY to oblige. If she REALLY belives this IDIOTIC statement, she should P-R-O-V-E -I-T. If you KNOW THE LAW IS BEING BROKEN how can you..."A TRUE Jacksonian" (To her HER tell it) stand by while these awful rich people get away with this? And.... African American Black Males(that she so claims to be the champion of) are rounded up by the truckload for the same thing? How can she stand by with this injustice going on? Really. Once again, she's NOT a journalist--and, as someone on this board has repeatedly said...If you have to go around screaming..."but I'm a journalist...I'M A JOURNALIST...." She's really not. And, she NEVER will be. Posted by: red states rule at July 12, 2005 06:57 AMComment from a conversation with a member of Johnson's campaign inner circle at recent get together. As a small group of us reflected on the campaign that weekly came up during the discussion. The Johnson confidante said, and I'm paraphrasing, 'Anything we wanted from them we got. We learned long ago, way before the campaign, that if you make them feel like insiders, they'll push whatever you need. We got them to endorse the convention center at the last minute though some of their folks had serious reservations. They never had the reach to turn it but we also weren't in a position to choose. Their need to be seen as influential trumps any in that business I have ever known.' Posted by: Fundraiser at July 12, 2005 10:27 AMFundraiser: For the reason you've stated, "their need to be seen as influential," Republican and Conservatives should think a little longer before posting on her web site. They are not going to change no sooner than Bill Minor. They have their financial life built around the troubled past of Mississippi. Knowing that they have a financial stake in the past, what's the point in arguing with them on her web site? All this BS about the arts is just smoke, in my opinion, to hide their intentions to be Bill Minor's heir to the throne over Mississippi past.
Posted by: Johnny at July 12, 2005 11:53 AM I've not read a hard copy of the alt-weakly in ages, nor visited the website in ages. However, from my few visits, I surmised that depending on the day of the week, it's either Mad, Sad or (in the case of predicting the mayoral race and gaining access to the new mayor) Been Had. Their political analysis is juvenile (black is good while white is bad) and nothing more than a cacaphony of liberal talking points. There's not an original thought to be found in the publication. Methinks the alt-weakly (yes...the spelling is intentional) should also come clean on who provided the startup money. I think I shall take it upon myself to write one of her advertisers each week and ask why they chose to spend their ad dollars in a publication that supports infanticide, promotes gay marriage and denigrates anyone affiliated with the Republican party. Posted by: at July 12, 2005 01:53 PMJohnny, Is there an alternative for moderated online discussions in Jackson? Check the Planet's site lately? The CL is a disorganized free for all at best, and there are only two or three folks who post here with rarely if ever any probing into issues. From what I can tell folks here only read enough on the JFP site to find bits and pieces they can easily trash. I for one would be interested in hearing your points of view discussed, but not if automatically agreeing with you is a prerequisite of discussion. I think you have made a number of interesting points, which I would find all the more interesting if I could read an informed opinion from another perspective. That's what blogging is about. The problem is that it disintegrates quickly without someone moderating. Posted by: Jackson at July 12, 2005 02:05 PMPW site is long gone. Seems like the new admin is cleaning house. Th-th-th-that's all folks! Posted by: Schizo at July 12, 2005 04:06 PMJackson, Exactly what opinion here do you find uninformed? Again, we like other sites, welcome debate, but a dissenting opinion is not necessarily uninformed. You need to feel free to enlighten us on whatever subject with your informed opinion and we will go from there. There has been a lot of back and forth re: JFP and their editorial positioning. I, for one, like having the JFP around. Starting/running a business of any kind in Jackson is hard enough and they get kudos for hanging with it. Having an alt paper in red state country is like having a fur booth at a PETA convention. By and large, their editorial position is wrong IMHO, and their news is more like opinews, but overall it is good to have them around. Makes us look that much better :-). Posted by: Alan at July 13, 2005 08:20 AM"Makes us look that much better" -Alan And you red-staters (a.k.a. Republicans) could use all the "lookin' better" you can stand at this point after outting CIA officials, sinking the economy, waging war on ideologies (ahem, still no Osama or WMD), lying to the world repeatedly, forcing little, senior ladies to sell their antiques for live-giving medication, special session after special session consistently draining the poorest state, jobs running like there's no tomorrow, increasing teen pregnancy, witch-hunting Janet Jackson's nipple, and making sure wholesome Mississippi ladies can't pleasure themselves while y'all make sure Viagra is dispensed like PEZ... Yep, y'all certainly need all the help you can get. What happened to "small government" with you "conservative" folks? It seems like we're somewhere between a theocracy, an empire, and complete and total anarchy. What I'd give for a Libertarian to overthrow it all! Posted by: k.a. at July 13, 2005 12:18 PMOne of these things is not like the others Theocracy Even us stupid redneck redstaters can figure this one out! Posted by: SChizo at July 13, 2005 12:22 PMJackson: I apologize if I've given you the impression that I have an informed opinion on anything political. I have no interest in politics beyond an election or a particular issue such as the annexation of Byram, which -- as a Conservative west Jackson resident -- I'm against because I see it as a tax grab. I also apologize for my clerical errors above. I'm running on Rolaids this week. As for Donna Ladd, the opinion I have of her is based on a general review of information I've found on the Internet and read on her web site. After coming to the conclusion that she is a FRAUD, like Bill Minor, just another white br(edited)-horn b(edited)r wanting to lead all the Black-History-In-Mississippi parades, I saw no need to know anything more about her opinions. Knowing that she had written many articles, I went Googling to see what I could learn about her to see what all the chatter was about regarding the JFP. In the articles I came across there was an article that led me to my conclusion of Donna's intentions. In this article we learn that it took the issue of the state flag, after 18-years away from this state, to compel her to return. After you read the article you can come to your own conclusion of its value. Jackson, after reading this article I found it impossible to believe that her return to Mississippi "after 18-years" was based solely on this flag issue, so I took a look to see if there was anything else that might give me a better perspective of what she might be up to. The first thing that got my attention is something that all of us can understand, and that's the difficulties a person faces should they decide to walk out the door in a moment of anger and start a new life/career "without any planning." If we believe what she says in this article, that's what she did. If you've got the money, you can do this, but how many people with this kind of money would take this leap "without" considering the pros and cons of the financial investment in your "first" start-up company. Regardless of what I think of her, Donna Ladd is one of the most intelligent women in Jackson, and 10X more intelligent than Bill Minor and media savvy than the Clarion-Ledger. Because she is an intelligent person, I find it too hard to belive that she took this leap without forethought. Assuming she was lying about her motive for returning to Mississippi, I looked to see if there was anything else that could lead someone of her political and social leaning back to Mississippi. To make a long story short, I determined that she came back to become the heir to the throne over Mississippi's past. Should she accomplish this goal in Mississippi, by taking Bill Minor's place on the throne, she will accomplish what she didn't in New York, which was to rise to the top of the heap and get the national recognition that all newspaper writer seek. Bill Minor has that national recognition, and during that 18-years away from Mississippi he got much older. King Minor's rule is short and the Clarion-Ledger is grooming no one to take his place. This will leave an opening for Donna Ladd to take his place on the throne over Mississippi's past by force from the JPF or by capitulation as a Clarion-Ledger staffer. I say staffer because the CL can't allow her to be a staffer and a competitor at the same time. If things go the way I see them, she gets --one way or the other -- what she has yet to achieve, national recognition, and she becomes the holder of the throne over Mississippi's past for the next 25-years. The Republicans that I see posting on her web site should consider the consequences of feeding what will be a much more capable beast --for the Republican Party -- than the one she's likely replaced. Other than Alan, FUJ and WC, I've seen no one that has the background and skill to challenge the ruler-to-be on her terms (web site rules), which it always is, that can walk away free. Every beast has its weakness, and it doesn't take much time to determine what's the JFP's weakness is. Your name (posting) and your money will only help the beast reach the throne. This is an uninformed opioion of Donna Ladd, but since you asked, I will comply. Now that I've had my little say, I'm going to Ebay, my favorite place to play.
Posted by: Johnny at July 13, 2005 04:40 PM ...or maybe she decided to return home to Mississippi where she has roots and wants to make a difference. Much more plausible (less insane) theory. Posted by: Jackson at July 13, 2005 05:21 PMJackson: If that is what you want to believe, I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince you otherwise. I don't see the subject to be worth the time. Johnny Posted by: Johnny at July 13, 2005 05:38 PMI just want to know why the owner of this site edited out my references to Donna in my earlier post. I didn't even use her last name. Whoever runs this site needs to grow a pair. Posted by: at July 14, 2005 08:18 AMWho really believes that someone in the Johnson Administration could make a sucker out of Donna Ladd, knowing that she had over 18-years in the business? If there were any suckers, it was those in the Johnson camp that believed they were that crafty. I'm still waiting for the "Shitload of drugs in Eastover..." comment to be BACKED UP BY FACTS.
Take a hike. Posted by: red states rule at July 14, 2005 08:54 PMWow... You really are racist pigs. Your wives suggested it but now I'm seeing it. Posted by: at July 14, 2005 11:00 PMRichard Dortch would be cheaper, easier to control and no threat to a few people at the CL, but this would leave Donna Ladd loose to use her newspaper and web site to take the throne by force through the networking which is underway. Her web site, networking and determination checkmates anything the Clarion-Ledger could do on it own with Dortch and its massive amount of files. Besides, if I remember correctly, Dortch is a leper (no journalism degree), and this might keep him from ever sitting on the throne. I would much rather have Dortch than Ladd on the throne. As for the "Shitload of drugs in Eastover," "it the seriousness of the charge."
Johnny: It won't matter who takes his place, I want both if possible. I want them to be given the loudest, most obnoxious stump there is. This will continue to expose the left for what they are. Besides, The Clarion Ledger needs FICTION writers too. This will assure more Republican wins statewide, and assist nationwide. The more hate, vitriol and lies they spew, the better the right does at the ballot box. As their agenda is exposed, their party will continue it's downward trend. As long as they continue to commit politcal suicide, let's hand them more ammo. Meanwhile, volunteer for campaign work. Talk to like minded people about voting. Talk ISSUES that the left is wrong on. There are many. Write letters to The Clarion Ledger. Participate in Talk-Radio(The left hates that). Drive elderly people to the polls. I stood in line with my wheelchair bound Grandmother for 4 hours so she could vote against John Kerry. She insisted as my deceased Grandfather was a WWII Veteran and would've seen Kerry as a TRAITOR. The MS House is NEXT. Maybe 8, maybe 10 years down the road. But it will happen. Just encourage the left to keep it up. Millions of the right stand at the ready for the next GLORIOUS trip to the polls. Posted by: red states rule at July 15, 2005 08:09 AM ("Wow... You really are racist pigs.
