Crime-fighting, not museum, is priority
I was dismayed to learn that the Hinds County Board of Supervisors voted to contribute $50,000 in taxpayer funds to the Museum of Muslim Culture ("Supervisor says board misled on grant for Muslim museum," July 20).
Supervisors initially turned down Sheriff Malcolm McMillin's request for new cars for deputies.
I listened to Supervisor Doug Anderson apologize for spending the money and promise to be a good steward of our money hereafter. That sort of stewardship reeks of the same kind of illogical and irresponsible decision-making we watched our legislators employ with the beef processing plant.
The illogic is the same; the venue more localized. Clearly, the priorities of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors and my own differ dramatically. At a time when Hinds County and Jackson are awash in crime, the supervisors should not make choices which do not support public safety.
The murder of my daughter gave me an "up close and personal" understanding of the importance of a well-functioning justice system and the grievous price individuals pay when the system is not supported and does not work well.
We can live without Anderson's intermittent budgeting and supervisor George Smith's trips to Hawaii, but the rest of us cannot live well without being safe; some of us cannot live at all.

Power and arrogance, simply power and arrogance. The same people that decided to put an apartment complex in Byram against the residents' wishes.
This is not unlike the power and arrogance we saw in Madison before David Clark was elected.
With David Clark in office, they now walk more carefully in Madison.

Diamonds can be heated and enhanced or irridated. The rest of the ore is then used for industrial purposes engagement rings. So then why would a diamond merchant discount the price on a genuinely good quality diamond that is a billion years old. Regardless of the shape, you really need to look at the cut and if there is any damage to the diamond.
